Our client, with a large house on the river in SW10, is seeking a Houseman/Butler.  The principal is a gentleman who typically spends Thursday to Monday in his country residence.

This is a live-in position, with a lovely 1-bed basement flat in the property next door, fully furnished, high spec, all bills included.

Tasks will include but are not limited to:

• Household maintenance and preparing the fires
• Housekeeping (with extra focus on heavier duties, eg using ladders for changing lightbulbs/attending to curtains etc)
• Building a rapport with contractors, and arranging visits where necessary and approved
• Ensuring a domestic staff member accompanies contractors during their visit to the house
• Having a good grasp of the household systems – eg heating, electric, Sky, and Sonos
• Preparing meeting rooms & offering refreshments for guests
• Butler duties, ie looking after the male principal, and taking care of his clothes/shoes
• Being security-aware regarding all visitors to the house
• Share joint responsibility for helping to ensure that the property is secure at all times, particularly at night and setting alarm if the family are not in residence
• Being a key holder and doing regular security checks on the main house and garden in the principal’s absence
• Ad-hoc duties when required

Hours: 9.30am–5.30pm, Monday to Friday, with some flexibility to stay until 7.00pm on one or two days a week to serve dinner (but no cooking required)

Salary: £50,000 per annum
