This is a lovely role for a Head Gardener / Maintenance Person to work at a large family estate in a beautiful part of Staffordshire. The house is set in 26 acres, some formal gardens and the rest set to farmland where livestock ‘Highland’ cattle are kept.

The principals are in residence for part of the year, and this can be for short or longer periods of time.

The role will suit someone who is proactive, enthusiastic, and a hard-working individual.

Duties to include:-

  • Managing and overseeing a gardening team
  • Liaising with other heads of departments
  • Planning, preparation, and presentation of formal gardens to a high standard
  • Hands-on gardening, preparation of flower beds, planting, pruning, mowing, clearing leaves debris, weeding, and cleaning stone etc, general upkeep in and around the property
  • Maintenance and overview of farmland in conjunction with other staff / management team

It is essential that you have at least 3 years’ experience working in a similar role on a private estate, with suitable references, if you have formal gardening qualifications then this would be looked on favourably.  Computer literate, able to organise your own day and have a ‘can do’ attitude to your work. This is a role that will require someone who has a flexible attitude as the job will be extremely busy and demanding when the principals are in residence, and less so when they are travelling, and you will then be able to ‘take back’ any hours that are owed to you.

This is a live-out role working the equivalent of a 5-day 40-50 hour week, which will not always be the same every week. Salary will be circa £30,000 with annual bonus and salary review.
